Pe. Geral ADOLFO NICOLÁS

Fr. Adolfo Nicolás, S.J., President of the Jesuit Conference of East Asia and Oceania, was elected the 29th General of the Society of Jesus this morning in Rome. The choice of the General Congregation was approved by the Holy Father.
Fr. Nicolás will be 72 on 29 April. He entered the Society of Jesus in Spain on 14 September 1953 and, like former General Fr. Pedro Arrupe was sent as a missionary to Japan. Ordained in 1967, he did graduate studies at the Gregorian University in Rome and then taught systematic theology at Sophia University in Japan. From 1978 - 1984 he was Director of the East Asian Pastoral Institute in Manila, Philippines and then returned to Japan to become Rector of the Theologate. From 1993 to 1999 he served as Provincial of the Japanese Province. In 2004 returned to Manila to be President of the JCEAO, coordinating ministries in and cooperation between Jesuit Provinces from Japan to Australia, including missions in East Timor, Cambodia and Myanmar.CURRICULUM VITAE OF FR.
